How many Harry Potter (or much better, Narnia) readers want to have magical powers? How many grown up grown-ups want to have things happen with a sweep of a wand? I'd say her desire to be a witch is perfectly normal. The real problem is that the universe is perfectly normal, with no room for magic.

About Harry Potter... I've always considered that there *is* room for magic, but the books and the lore of the HP universe never took it "seriously" enough, to the point that, starting from Book 4 and onwards, the Rules of the Magic World not only start making no sense, they also start contradicting each other.

Sheesh, I could write a massive essay on my thoughts on the matter, but let's just summarize with me using a very well-known and proven scientific fact: Nothing comes from no-where, nothing ever disappears, everything turns into something else. This could also apply to magic. ;)

Cute as always, Wilfreda is being very thoughtful about Miss Mimi's advice and even looks happy to try. Too bad the other girls are a little put off by her affectations, but I really like that Wilfreda gives it right back to her. It's neat that she does want to be "normal" in a way too, which makes her all the more intriguing. Thanks for sharing.

There's still a lot to learn about Wilfreda and her desire to be a witch. Everything has a proper explanation (hasn't it?), but the main meat of this series is to keep not just the characters, but also the reader, guessing the potential answers to the main question: Is Wilfreda a witch? Maybe she is... but maybe she isn't. Maybe you'll see strange stuff happen from time to time... only to be proven everything had a proper explanation. If I can keep the readers guessing, then that'd be a victory.

As opposed to the really, really weird witches who have talk radio shows and vote Republican.

And I'm not even sure that what you commented is a joke or not, given that I understand nothing of politics.

Given what I understand of talk radio, I'm not sure that he's joking or not.

Heh well that's very sound logic actually.

It's a bit of a childish logic, but it works well in context.
