Not to mention "Angry Birds," another game-"based" film.

"Careful", like "good", just isn't in american 'blockbuster' movie-maker dictionaries.
Heck, I'm still sore over the John Carter movie. They had everything in place to be awesome, but then crammed the first three books together into the same 2 hour movie. Given the amount of stuff, the sheer length of the Mario Brothers series, how can we but expect the same?

To be fair folks did like the the R&C movie and it was true to it's roots. It was just considered too average though, focused too much on other characters outside the main ones and not offering anything new in a crowded market.  Most just say to go play the remake game for the more "definitive" movie experience since it goes into more detail on the duo. I chalk up the bad box office returns to just lousy advertising. It didn't really scream "blockbuster", just "oh hey here's our movie, that's it, bye". It happens, just ask the Powerpuff Girls when their movie came out, same results.

Y'know it's funny, we complain when a movie based on something goes too off the mark, but likewise if they don't do enough differently. A tricky balancing act adapting something, it is.

Oh, I'm well aware of all of that. The real point is: the movie bombed. Now they also say that the AC movie is gonna take place more time in the Present than in the Animus, and THAT is not looking nice for the fans. Soooo, yeah... Nintendo better do things right.
